Introduction

Users in the torrent world love private torrent tracking sites. For them, being a part of a torrent tracking community isn’t less than an achievement. Why? Because these private communities provide you an extensive free indie content library with an ability to download content at lightning speed. Additionally, there’s a certain level of prestige to it as becoming a member isn’t as straightforward as one would hope. You can join a private torrent group only via invitation or donation. Today, we’ll be reviewing one of the oldest private torrent tracker sites – Ethor.net.

What is Ethor.net?

Ethor.net is a French general tracker site based in Canada. It’s an iconic site known to offer a wide range of free indie content Ethor.net as a platform has been online for quite a long time, and though it’s popular, it’s not necessarily the best. For instance, the most popular torrents on the site can be downloaded quickly but at the same time, the majority of the free indie content on the platform is unseeded.

Is Ethor.net safe?

For a torrent site to be safe for browsing, it needs to have an SSL certificate, which Ethor.net does have. By using tools such as SEOQuake and MOZ, you can easily check the credibility of a website by gauging Domain Score (DS) and Trust Score (TS). Based on my research, Ethor has a domain score of 5 and a trust score of 31 which is underwhelming. Sure, it’s not uncommon for torrent sites to have a DS less than 15 and a TS less than 40. But given that Ethor.net started its journey back in 2005, it’s disappointing to see that the domain score isn’t higher than 30 at least.

What should you expect from the Ethor.net?

Forums – For a new member, Forums can work wonders. In order to get them accustomed to the community, well-designed pages can help them find answers to their questions. Personally, a new community can be overwhelming since there’s a plethora of information out there. Nonetheless, with Ethor.net’s well-designed forum, you can learn about different aspects using topics. The threads are classified as per topics and are divided into various categories such as ‘Video Streaming’, ‘Humor’, ‘Announcements’, ‘Presentation’, ‘Tutorials’, ‘Comments & Suggestions’, ‘Technical Problems’, ‘Offers’, and ‘Game Consoles’.

Active Data – Ethor is quite transparent with its members. It provides complete data of the best and worst participants on the platform. For instance, it has a list of ‘Top 10 Uploaders’, ‘Top 10 Seeders’, ‘Top 10 fastest Uploaders’, and so on. If you look at the table, you realize that a single person who goes by the name of ‘emailhot’ has uploaded 2.243PB of data. At the same time, a user that tops the download charts has downloaded more than 720TB of data.

Torrent Upload – As a member, you can upload free indie content on the site. Just visit the upload page from the homepage and fill in the form. In that form, you need to add a torrent file, choose an image, provide a name, and write a description related to the file. Any user can upload a torrent if they do so keeping the rules and regulations in check.

Well-Defined Categories – Ethor provides users access to a wide range of categories. These categories are well-defined with specific subcategories.

Ethor.net in numbers

Ethor.net is a large community with over 20,000 registered members. It primarily caters to the French audience, however, since it’s available in English as well, and thus users from around the world shouldn’t face any problem while browsing the site. It has about 101,000 torrents including free SD and HD indie content. There are over 487,000 seeders as opposed to 5213 leechers and 426,738 peers. There are more than 15,000 Elite members along with 1020 VIP members.

As per the Alexa rankings, Ethor is ranked #177,610 which makes it amongst the top 180,000 websites on the internet. It attracts more than 660,000 users a month and an average visit on the site lasts for more than 33 minutes. An average user visits 17 pages before bouncing off the website. In terms of engagement, Ethor does surpass every expectation I had. An active session of over 33 minutes justifies the commendable bounce rate of 32.01%.

How to access Ethor.net?

You can access Ethor by searching for the term ‘Ethor.net’ in your search engine. Alternatively, if you want to access the platform directly, you can use the following link: Ethor.

Ethor.net rules

Before you join Ethor.net, there are certain rules that you need to follow. Some of these are general rules whereas others are more specific. Currently, I’ll be sharing some category related rules with you.

Any Category: You should not archive or unzip files that you post on the site. ZIP, RAR, and other archives should be used only as a last resort.

Design

Ethor.net sports a clean design with contrasting cream colors. The background behind the text is fairly lighter as opposed to the base layer. The color combination itself is pretty unique. The blue menu text color with black header categories look different. As for the content arrangement itself, the sections are well-segregated using a double outline which keeps the interface clean.

Header – The header section on the website has 12 categories in total. You have ‘Bookmarks’, and ‘Blackjack’ on the left, and ‘Home’, ‘Shoutbox’, ‘Torrents’, ‘Queries’, ‘Avatar’, ‘Upload’, ‘Forum’, ‘Top 10’, ‘FAQ’, and ‘Staff’ at the center. I appreciate the presence of these menus in the header section as they make browsing and navigation simple. The first time I visited this website, I was stuck on the Avatar page for more than an hour.

Free Indie Content – Ethor.net has over 100,000 torrent files. Thus, it’s fair to say that it doesn’t disappoint when it comes to quantity. And even in terms of quality of free indie titles, I wasn’t disappointed.

Desktop/Mobile experience

Browsing around the website is quite seamless. Whether you’re on your desktop or mobile device, Ethor.net doesn’t pose any problems. What impressed me the most is the download speed on this platform. Sure, most of the content on this platform is unseeded but the ones which are seeded can be downloaded quickly.

Suggestions I have for Ethor.net

The one aspect that shouldn’t be marred by issues is ‘seeding’ and Ethor.net misses the mark in this area. Maybe by incentivizing the seeding process and adding bonus points, it might be able to draw a better response from the content downloaders. Nonetheless, a poor seeding ratio hurts a community’s reputation more than any other aspect.

Conclusion

Ethor.net is a cool website with a broad free indie content library. However, you can’t download everything at a steady speed because most of the content is unseeded.
