Introduction
OMG Torrent may not be the first site that comes to mind when you think of the best torrent trackers in the world. Perhaps OMG Torrent is a site that should be in your bookmarks, at the very least as a backup. After all, there is no such thing as too many torrent sites in your arsenal.
Say you are looking for a specific free indie movie, free indie series, free indie book, free indie game, or piece of open-source software. There is no way to know for sure whether your default torrent tracker of choice is going to have the file in question – let alone an executable or speedy download of said file. This is especially true if you happen to be looking for a more obscure free indie file, perhaps an esoteric free French indie film. Therefore, the best way to go about torrenting is to anticipate the hunt and have a torrent site at the ready for every possible scenario. Each torrent search is unique.
Some expert advice for smart torrenting – The more torrent sites that you have loaded into your bookmarks, then, the better. If you have a torrent tracker for every potential downloading situation, then you will always be prepared to find a file, no matter how obscure (or French) it may be. The smartest way to torrent successfully is to torrent strategically. You may not have much luck, to put it another way, in finding that obscure free French indie flick. However, if you have a solid French torrent site like OMG Torrent at the ready, you will be much more likely to find it.
This is also the rule of thumb when it comes to various types of content. You may already know it, but there are tons of highly specialized torrent trackers out there. Some only allow uploads of free indie music torrents, others cater specifically to free indie film or TV, open-source software, free indie video games, free indie anime, etc. If you are ever at a loss with a certain file, consider going this route, as these communities tend to by hyper knowledgeable about the content that they share.
However, there are downsides to these types of sites as well. An overwhelming majority of these sites tend to be private torrent trackers – which means that not just anybody can visit and begin downloading torrents. These sites tend to be extremely exclusive.
You may either have to somehow obtain a private registration link (probably by being invited by a current member in good standing), or wait for a rare (and short lived) open registration window. Plus, even if you do make it into these sites, they tend to have very high standards and upload quotas that must be met in order for you to remain a member.
How do I recognize the best public torrent trackers? – There is some good news, though. There are a plethora of totally open, public torrent trackers on the web, too. In fact, there may be too many. That is why it is so difficult and time-consuming to figure out which are the best torrent trackers and which can be skipped over. Worry not, though, that is precisely why I have made TorrentSites – to help you build your arsenal of torrent trackers by providing thoughtful and comprehensive reviews of all the best torrent sites on the web. I have done the homework so that you don’t have to!
Generally speaking, though, the best torrent trackers have great site design, plenty of helpful user features, a thriving online community of engaged and active peers, some safety measures in place, and, of course, tons of high-quality torrents! That being said, where, then, does OMG Torrent fall on the spectrum of the best torrent sites? Well, let’s dive in and take a look, shall we?
Design
Unfortunately, torrent trackers and torrent search engines are not exactly known for intuitive, responsive, clean, and user-friendly site design. I get it, though, it is probably not easy to something so data heavy as a list of torrents and make it look sleek and sexy. There is only so much you can do when you are indexing files. However, every now and then, a site like OMG Torrent comes around and defies all expectation.
Home page – Finally, a torrent tracker with a design that makes sense. OMG Torrent has found the perfect balance between providing torrent data and providing aesthetically pleasing web design. They have given us a very no frills, no BS approach to torrent tracker site design, and I think it is working.
From the moment you land on OMG Torrent, you will be greeted by a simple black banner at the top of the page; to the left is an understated and effective logo, to the right a search bar. Just below this banner, is a blue site menu bar that grants easy and convenient access to the various areas of this site.
Keep scrolling down to get right into the nitty gritty of the site and immediately begin browsing torrents.
Inner pages – As you venture further into the site, it continues to impress. The torrent info pages, for instance, have plenty of information – all of which is depicted in an easily identifiable, highly organized manner – along with ratings, screenshots, credit info, torrent file info, and an intricate system of tagging. The only things missing from these pages are trailers and, sadly, comments. However, they do look great.
Content and Features
As I just mentioned, there are a few key features that appear to be missing from OMG Torrent. More specifically, I always prefer my torrent trackers to offer both a comments section and a system of verified torrents. This site, however, has neither. Without a system of comments or torrent verification, I have no way of knowing how legit any of these files are. And if, god forbid, some of the torrent files on this site contain malware, my peers cannot warn me of this due to a lack of comments.
The only other thing that I really don’t love about this site is the fact that you have to register in order to download torrents. Even though it is a public torrent tracker. Of course, this is not the most annoying thing in the world … but it is just inconvenient enough to probably keep me moving along in my search if I am looking for a quick download, as there are plenty of trackers that do not require me to register as a user.
Regularly updated blog – However, one cool thing about this site is that OMG Torrent has a blog that they actually seem to keep up with. With a new post nearly every month (save for the last few, probably due to the pandemic), you can stay on top of the latest news in the world of torrenting and media. The articles are helpful, too, and interesting to read. I always appreciate a torrent site that does not stop at merely providing torrents. OMG Torrent goes that extra mile for its users.
Tons of torrents, all highly organized – I am also a huge fan of OMG Torrent’s method of organization. Every single file is meticulously labeled with a tag, and those tags are very easily accessible throughout the site. This makes it as easy as it should be to browse by genre, film type, film quality, etc.
Mobile and Desktop Experience
I am happy to report that OMG Torrent is also one of the few actually mobile friendly torrent trackers that I have seen recently. Too often, torrent trackers are not designed to appear responsively on mobile screens, but OMG Torrent’s layout adapts appropriately regardless of the device that you are viewing it on. For those of you who prefer to do your torrenting on the go, OMG Torrent might be just the site for you.
