Introduction

One never can have too many torrent sites at his disposal. When it comes to torrenting, the issue is not whether you can find a single site that will help you take care of all of your torrent downloading needs. There is no monolithic torrent site that can help you successfully download any and every file you could ever want. No, the much more realistic and effective way to go about torrenting is to have a solid array of torrent sites at the ready at all times.

You never know when your usual go-to torrent index or your favorite torrent search engine is going to leave you empty handed.

There are plenty of reasons why you would want to diversify your portfolio, so to speak, of torrent sites that you have available to you. Sometimes it is not even about efficiency. Sometimes you just prefer the browsing style of one site over another. Maybe a more obscure torrent site like Badass Torrents tends to showcase the kinds of free indie torrents that you like more frequently. Maybe you prefer its bare-bones site design, making it simple and straightforward to find whatever it is that you are looking for.

If so, Badass Torrents might be the perfect alternative for you. Either way, the moral of the story is that you should not be relying on just one torrent site for all of your free indie torrent downloading needs. This is why I strongly suggest bookmarking TorrentSites.com.

I am not even saying this out of some sort of selfish sense of shameless self-promotion, either, I genuinely believe that this list of torrent sites and reviews is the ultimate tool to ensure that you have the right torrent site handy at all times. No matter what site the job might call for, having this list handy of all the best torrent sites on the web is the best way to make sure that you have a successful and positive torrenting experience every time. Plus, I am always adding to this list, too. So, if there is a new torrent site on the scene that is worth knowing about, you can be on the lookout for it.

At any rate, as I said before, the site that we will be taking a look at today is called Badass Torrents. It is an extremely stripped-down torrent index site that does not play games. It honestly doesn’t get any more no-nonsense than this site. All you will find here are tons of free indie torrents, all relevant torrent info, and download buttons. No excess. No frills. In that regard, I suppose it would be accurate to say that this is a badass site – it gets straight to the point.

Is the site an effective way to find torrents of multiple categories? Well, the only way to find out for sure is to dive in and take a closer look at everything that Badass Torrents has to offer. So, without further ado, let’s take a look at Badass Torrents, and see if it is actually as badass as it claims to be.

Design

As I said, there really is nothing unnecessary to this site. This goes for both functionality and design. It doesn’t get much more minimalist than this. I rather like this pared-back appearance. It has a sort of Apple iOS feel to it. When you land on Badass Torrents’ home page, you will be greeted by nothing but a search bar, a site menu, and “Hello.” written in a classic, sleek font (Verdana maybe?). Other than that, all you will find is a bisected background, the top quarter of which is light gray, the rest is white.

The further into the site you click, you’ll see that this minimalistic theme only continues. Browsing torrents is a clean and highly organized process. It doesn’t get much easier than this. It is a classic list format, which will immediately be intuitive to anyone who has used a torrent site before (and, I would guess, even those of you who haven’t). Quickly ascertain the file name, the category, the torrent’s age, its file size, and the number of seeds and leeches it currently has attached to it.

To the right of your search results, you’ll also find an understated box with a list of categories available in it, again making browsing torrents as easy as can be. This design is so subtle, in fact, that I almost missed it. I don’t know if I have ever seen a sleeker, cleaner torrent site before.

The torrent info pages, too, continue in the same aesthetic vein. Unfortunately, you won’t find any screenshots or additional media associated with the torrents, seeing as the name of the game with this site design is to cut away “excess.” But you are able to see, again in a very cleanly organized manner, the user who uploaded the torrent, as well as the download and magnet links, which both have their own segregated space on the page. What you see is what you get on Badass Torrents, and that really is all that you get.

Content and Features

One downside to the extreme minimalism of this site is the fact that it translates sometimes into a lack of features. There are, for instance, no verified torrents. Maybe this doesn’t bother you a whole lot. Personally, though, I prefer it when my torrent site does offer a torrent verification system of some sort. Especially since there is no real vetting of users (anyone with an email can register and upload torrents).

The lack of additional media associated with each torrent is a bit disappointing. Although it results in a sort of cool aesthetic, sure, I would much rather be able to see a little bit of what I am downloading. Some kind of preview, maybe a cover or a thumbnail (or something!) would be nice.

Lastly, there are no comments on these torrents. That means A.) if you prefer a torrent site with a strong sense of community, this is probably not the one for you, and B.) if there are problems with these (unverified) torrents, there is no forum on which users can alert one another or discuss potential issues.

That being said, there is a good spread of torrents and torrent types to be found here.

As far as torrent health is concerned, Badass Torrents definitely doesn’t have the best-seeded torrents on the web, but I have also seen worse. It is not uncommon for torrents to have significantly more leeches than seeds, which makes download speeds slower than I would like (and, in some cases, impossible).

Mobile and Desktop Experience

The mobile version of this site is optimized well enough. The format and layout does change a little bit to adapt to phone and tablet screens. Could it be better optimized? Sure … is it poorly designed enough for me to count it against Badass Torrents? Nah. There are definitely torrent sites out there that are nowhere near as mobile friendly as this one is. So, if you prefer to torrent on the go, I think Badass Torrents would be a halfway decent option.
