Introduction
When looking for a new torrent tracker, finding the right one for you is often not as easy as it may seem. First of all, there are so many different torrent trackers out there to choose from, how are you supposed to tell one from the other? Short of wasting countless hours looking at each one individually and doing all of the research yourself, there are not many easy ways to figure out which torrent tracker or torrent search engine is the best.
Which is precisely why Torrent Sites exists – to help you figure out which torrent sites are going to be best suited for your needs. There are so many factors to take into account when weighing the pros and cons of a torrent tracker, I thought it might help make everyone’s life a little easier to have a handy, neatly organized, and thoroughly reviewed list of all the best torrent sites that the internet has to offer. What, though, should you be looking for in your torrent tracker of choice?
Safety is Key – One of the first and most important factors to take into account when deciding on a torrent tracker is, of course, whether the site is as safe as it should be. It goes without saying that some torrent trackers are sounder than others. How, then, can you tell whether a certain torrent site has enough safety measures in place? Well, there are a few things you can look for.
Verified Torrents – If your torrent tracker has a system in place for verifying torrents, this is a very good sign. A torrent verification system means that someone (or, at the very least, some bot) out there is scanning and evaluating each and every torrent that is uploaded to the server. If a torrent is deemed to be safe, accurate, and virus free, a torrent site with verified torrents will indicate as much by tagging the file, often with a green checkmark. With verified torrents, users can immediately figure out whether a torrent is trustworthy without having to do any digging of their own.
A Robust and Active Comments Section – Another safeguard to look for when downloading torrents is a hearty comments section on each torrent. With comments in place, users can openly and democratically discuss each torrent. If a certain torrent, then, is seen to be problematic, troubling, or malicious, other users can be counted on to make these concerns known in the comments. This is also helpful outside of safety, for receiving any necessary assistance with file download issues or, with more complicated torrents (such as software) installation procedures.
Community and other Concerns – Safety, though, is not the only concern to take into account when evaluating a torrent tracker. There are several other important factors, such as site design, mobile-friendliness, user features, quality of the content, and how active a certain P2P network is. Because, at the end of the day, a torrent tracker is only as powerful as the community which comprises it.
In P2P file sharing, in other words, the activity levels of your peers are going to be imperative. Without active uploaders and seeders, you will not be able to find torrents; or, if you can, downloads can be extremely slow or unable to complete at all if seed numbers are too low.
How does Torrent 9 Stack Up? – Now that we have all of that out of the way, we can see how the French public torrent tracker, Torrent 9 performs in all of the relevant categories. How well is it designed? Is it easy to use? Is it easy to browse torrents? Is there an active and helpful community of peers? What useful features does Torrent 9 have to offer? Well, let’s take a closer look and find out, shall we? Let’s see if Torrent 9 has what it takes to be your new torrent site of choice!
Design
All too often, I find myself despising the design of torrent trackers. This is, refreshingly, not the case with Torrent 9. The site is sparse, but effective. It is minimalistic, but experiential. It walks a tricky line to walk: a torrent site that presents torrent file data in a clean, neat, and aesthetically pleasing way. Torrent 9 presents itself in an understated white, gray, and blue theme, placing much of its emphasis on the highly organized and easy to browse nature of the site.
Home Page – From the moment you land on Torrent 9’s home page, this understated and subtle (yet powerful) nature of the site will make itself known immediately. You will be greeted by a prominently featured search bar (with a minute and utilitarian logo to its left). Below the search bar, you’ll find a convenient and easy way to browse the free indie contents of the site.
The rest of the home page is equally sparse and useful. Begin browsing torrents immediately and make use of the filtering feature. Sort by date added, torrent name (alphabetical), cut, seeds, leeches, file type, and genre (mystery, action adventure, horror, etc.). It is rare that you find a torrent tracker that actually makes it easy to browse and discover new torrents. I love this about Torrent 9.
Inner Pages and Torrent Info Pages –The trend of highly neat and organized pages continues throughout the rest of Torrent 9’s pages. Including the torrent info pages. All relevant torrent info is easily discernible and readily apparent. Also, unlike some other torrent trackers, both the direct torrent download and magnet link download buttons are very clear and easy to find – each file, too, comes with its own selection of related torrents, making browsing and finding the torrents you care about easier than ever.
I should probably point out here, however, while we are discussing torrent info pages, the first note of disappointment in this site. Torrent 9’s files do not have comments sections, unfortunately. As discussed earlier, of course, comments are preferable, for both download safety and any other necessary aid.
That being said, overall, the design of Torrent 9 is remarkably good.
Content and Features
In general, being a French torrent tracker, you can expect to find a lot of free French indie torrents. Naturally. This doesn’t mean that you won’t be able to find free indie American or free indie British TV shows or movies, but subtitles (should they exist within a movie or series torrent) are more likely to be in French. Plus, you’ll be able to more readily find French media than you might on other torrent sites.
Robust and Active Community – This, along with the site design, is one of the strongest aspects of Torrent 9. The members of this public torrent tracker are very active, thankfully, frequently uploading and seeding torrents. This, of course, makes for speedy and effective file downloads. The fact that the community is so rich, however, also adds to my disappointment in the site’s lack of social features, such as comments.
Diverse Range of Free Indie Content – Torrent 9 does not discriminate whatsoever when it comes to what kinds of files can be uploaded. As a user, you’ll be able to access free indie movies, free indie music, free indie TV shows, free indie computer games, free indie console games, free indie eBooks, and open-source software. The only thing that Torrent 9 is lacking in is homemade erotica. But don’t worry, if adult content is what you are after, there are plenty of other torrent trackers out there for you.
Mobile and Desktop Experience
Torrent 9 offers just as great of a user experience on your smartphone as it does on your desktop computer. The site is optimized for phones and tablets, making it as easy as ever to torrent on the go.
No Ads – I am very happy to report that Torrent 9 does not utilize ads. Which is a rare trait in a torrent site such as this one. All too often, especially on mobile versions of torrent tracker sites, ads are so cumbersome and prevalent, they completely ruin the experience. Thankfully, however, Torrent 9 is ad-free, only adding to the site’s intuitive and user-friendly feel.
