Introduction

When you are looking for a good VPN for torrenting, what are some of the things that you are looking for? Well, seeing as the whole point of using a VPN to begin with is privacy, naturally, you’ll want to find a service that has top-notch encryption, as well as a no logs policy (preferably). Believe it or not, there is a great deal of variance when it comes to the different levels of privacy offered by competing VPN apps. Some VPNs offer total privacy, IP scrambling, data encryption, and keep zero logs of user activity – many of the best VPNs, too, have proven this through independent privacy audits conducted by third-party organizations.

Others, however, like to claim total privacy but do log user data. They may not come out in the open and say it (and, to be fair, it is usually relatively benign stuff, such as hardware models and usage), but many VPNs do, in fact, keep and sell records of their users’ activity. I have always found this to be an absurd practice. How am I expected to trust a software whose whole purpose is to keep my data private and encrypted when the company that makes the software itself is tracking and, in some cases, selling my data? That doesn’t fly in my book.

So, privacy, of course, is at the core of the best VPN for torrenting. Second to privacy, though, comes speed. VPNs are not, generally speaking, exactly known for their lightning fast speeds. This is understandable enough, seeing as your data has to be scrambled, encrypted, sent halfway around the world (depending on your server location), through the usual BitTorrent protocol, and then back to you. That’s a lot of ground to cover. Naturally, in most cases, when using a VPN, you can expect at least a little bit of a slowdown to download speeds.

The need for speed – That being said, the best VPNs for torrenting are those that minimize that lag. There are some that do such a good job at this that the lags are undecipherable. With the right VPN, you won’t even be able to tell the difference. Which is why, as somebody who spends most of his data on torrenting, a software called Fastest VPN was bound to grab my attention.

Fastest VPN certainly has smart and to the point marketing and branding, that much is certain. The company has figured out a way to position themselves well in an overcrowded market (the VPN market), so as to really stand out by advertising what they believe to be their greatest asset: speed. This is only reinforced by their lightning bolt logo, which also lends the company a sharp and professional look.

Not only is this smart from a consumer facing standpoint, but it is also very strategic when you consider Search Engine Optimization. By naming the product Fastest VPN, they are much more likely to come up at the top of the list when people Google “fastest VPN,” looking for the quickest torrent download speeds. My hat’s off to you, Fastest VPN, it’s a clever name, that’s for sure.

However, when you call yourself something like Fastest VPN, you better be ready to back that claim up. Lord knows people will test you on it. So, is Fastest VPN actually the fastest VPN on the market? Furthermore, how does it perform when it comes to all of the other important features that we look for in a VPN – such as top-notch privacy, encryption, number of server locations, no logs, customer support, and, of course, being P2P friendly? Well, there’s only one way to find out for sure. So, without further ado, let’s dive in and take a closer look at everything that Fastest VPN has to offer, shall we?

Design and user experience

Over the last year or so, Fastest VPN has made some pretty drastic changes to their service. In addition to overhauling some previous performance issues (more on that in a bit), they have also redesigned their interface and user experience. Some things have remained the same, though, such as their sleek lightning bolt icon doubling as the power button. A clever and logical choice, I think, in its simplicity and user-friendliness.

The old version of Fastest VPN had a single pane interface. This new (and I would say, improved) update to the program, however, offers more of a traditional standalone desktop feel to it, resulting in a more immersive and, I think, slightly more user-friendly experience. You still connect via clicking the lightning bolt, but this larger, more full-screen approach makes it easier to browse available server locations, as well as toggle back and forth between VPN connections and settings.

I actually prefer Fastest VPNs interface over a lot of the other VPNs for torrenting that I have reviewed. It is entirely possible, though, that this is nothing more than personal preference (I’m not a huge fan, generally speaking, in single pane desktop apps … maybe that’s just me).

Content and Features

As I mentioned a second ago, Fastest VPN has really ramped up their features and fixed quite a few performance issues (for which they had been pretty heavily criticized in the past). The first thing that Fastest VPN can be credited for doing over the last year is nearly doubling their number of servers.

In 2019, Fastest VPN only offered 150 servers to which users could connect. Today, Fastest VPN boasts 250. Just to be clear, in the broader scope of VPNs in general, this is not many. One of the industry leaders, for instance, Cyber Ghost offers its users over 6,000 private servers from all over the world.

Fastest VPN also offers some novel and useful features that you aren’t likely to find on every VPN service. For instance, it comes with an ad blocker and antimalware software built in, keeping you safe from potential threats (which are automatically decreased anyway while your VPN is connected) and limiting the number of pesky ads that will interrupt your otherwise enjoyable online experience. The service also claims that Fastest VPN will work to prevent ISP speed throttling.

A very torrent friendly VPN – Users also enjoy unlimited bandwidth, 10 simultaneous connections, additional security via a NAT Firewall, a kill switch feature, DNS leak prevention, and accessibility across 20+ devices, making it one of the most widely accessible VPNs on the market (not to mention secure). Plus, users of Fastest VPN can also torrent with greater peace of mind. You’ll have totally anonymous torrenting, with certain servers that are dedicated to P2P file sharing specifically. So, is this one of the best VPNs for torrenting? Yeah, I would say so.

This, of course, leads us to the million-dollar question. Is Fastest VPN, in fact, the fastest VPN? According to a review conducted by PC World, speed is something that this company has worked on over the last year. In 2019, PC World clocked Fastest VPN at around 30% of the base speed (which is just about average for a VPN). In a more recent review, however, PC World revisited the VPN, testing again for speed. This time, Fastest VPN was maxing out at about 45% base speed, making it one of the fastest VPNs on the market, for sure.

Speed, however, did vary quite a bit based on which server locations you connected to. The fastest speeds were recorded in the US, UK, and Germany. PC World’s tests in Asia and Australia, though, were notably inconsistent. PC World goes on to say that “The scores were not good enough to beat the current speed champ, Hot Spot Shield, but, overall, the results are still very good.”

Although Fastest VPN may not, in fact, be the fastest VPN in the world, it comes close. Plus, if their tech keeps improving this much every year, it is very possible that they might unseat Hot Spot Shield by 2022
