Introduction
How do you know when you have found the perfect torrent index site? Well, for starters, I’m not sure that there is such a thing as ‘the perfect torrent site’ in any objective sense. In my experience, it is a very subjective matter, choosing a torrent index. We all look for different features and we all tend to care about certain aspects more than others.
Generally speaking, though, I think it is fair to say that we all want some of the same things. We all want an active community of peers, as that is what helps to ensure that downloads occur efficiently. We all want a wide variety of torrents to browse. We all want great site design and user-friendly interfaces. And we all want a torrent site that has safety measures in place to assure us that we can download torrents with no worries.
Safety first – That being said, if a torrent tracker does not have something like a torrent verification system or an active comments section to safeguard against malicious or corrupted files, that doesn’t mean that it necessarily has to be counted out. There are plenty of measures that you can take on your end to protect your safety, no matter what site you use.
Also, with a solid antivirus software, you should be safe. In fact, some torrent clients even come with built-in antivirus programs. These will scan files before you even download them, alerting you to any potential issues before the torrent even commences. You may have to upgrade to the premium version of your client of choice in order to enjoy this privilege, but doing so can really open up your options when it comes to choosing a torrent indexer, as well as put your mind at ease to download freely and without a care.
The perfect torrent indexer? – Every once in a while you stumble upon a torrent index site that has just about everything you could ever hope for in a new go-to torrent source … Responsive, intuitive, and experiential site design; a great selection of torrents; high peer activity for fast and efficient download speeds; a great variety of torrents and file types; and tons of content information and browsing functions to help you discover new free indie movies and TV shows with ease.
It is awfully rare for one of these lesser-known torrent sites to tick all of the boxes, but when you find one that does, it is a beautiful thing. When I first arrived on Alt Torrent, I was convinced that I had found a contender for my new favorite torrent index site. Even if there are some features missing here, I think that Alt Torrent is a torrent site that everyone should know about, especially those of you who download primarily free indie movies and TV series.
So, is Alt Torrent the perfect torrent index for free indie movies and TV series? Well, let’s dive in and take a closer look at this refreshingly well-designed site and see for ourselves, shall we?
Design
This is the first thing that shocked me when I landed on Alt Torrent’s home page. This might be the best-designed torrent index site that I have seen to date. It has everything you could ask for. The site is responsive, intuitive, easy to navigate, it has professional and modern aesthetic, and there are so many ways to browse and search for torrents. Plus, each torrent comes equipped with beautiful screenshots and tons of content info.
Alt Torrent takes into account user experience in a way that is exceedingly rare with other sites of its kind. If I can be frank, torrent indexers are not really known for providing great site design. Lots of torrent sites have trouble, it seems, with translating something as data heavy as an index of torrents into something that is aesthetically pleasing and offers a smooth and fun user experience. Alt Torrent, however, seems to have cracked the code.
Home page – The home page alone is testament to what I am talking about. Whereas most torrent index sites rely heavily on text, Alt Torrent opts for images and icons. This gives the site a much more inviting and exciting look than most. The home page, too, is cleanly divided into numerous sections in a way that does not look cluttered or sloppy, even though it is providing a great deal of content on a single page.
How does Alt Torrent pull this off? For one thing, neat dividers section off content clearly and in a way that compositionally makes sense. Add to this the fact that each torrent is presented primarily as a thumbnail and the use of interactive carousals for further browsing of content and you have the recipe for one of the best torrent index user experiences that I have ever seen.
The major sections of the home page allow you to browse torrents by featured free indie films, featured free indie series, and top downloaded torrents. All of this is concentrated to the center of the home page. The site gets even further organized when you take a look at the browsing options which border the middle matter, to the right and above it.
On the right-hand side of the page, find a comprehensive guide to browsing the site by genre, video quality, or release date. Each cleanly separated section comes with a full menu of options for the one of the smoothest browsing functions of any torrent index on the web, hands down.
On the top of the page, you’ll also find a slick and slender alphabet menu, allowing you to quickly click a letter and begin browsing titles that way. And just above this banner, you’ll find the site menu bar, which asserts itself in graphics instead of the typical text. Each one has its own respective dropdown menu as well. And, somehow, nothing on this site is redundant or unnecessary. This is top-notch site design at its best.
Inner pages – The further into the site you go, the more impressive it becomes. Each torrent file comes with its own glossy spread of high-resolution screenshots (which can be expanded to full-screen), plenty of content info, user-ratings, torrent info, and genre tags. There are also intuitive and easily accessible tabs that toggle what info is being displayed in a seamless and elegant way. Switch between Info, Links, and Videos instantaneously.
The attention to detail on this site, I think, is one of the things that makes it so effective. It’s the little things, they all add up to make all the difference from a design perspective. One such detail, for instance, is how each torrent’s info page takes on a background of its own … one that captures the color scheme and essence of the film or series in question. It’s stuff like this that really elevates the user experience of a site.
Content and Features
If I were to judge Alt Torrent as solely a free indie film and TV torrent index, it would be awesome. However, I would like to see it expand to include more file types.
There are other features, too, that I wish this site would embrace. There are no verified torrents, for example. Nor are there comments sections on any of the torrents. This makes me a tiny bit nervous.
It would also be nice to see some community features added to the site, in general. Maybe a forum or a blog would do the trick.
Mobile and Desktop Experience
As effective as the site is on your computer, it is on your phone or tablet. I am also happy to report that Alt Torrent has a minimal number of ads – another rarity when it comes to torrent index sites.
