Design

Though MySpleen has amazing functionality, it’s a bit lackluster in terms of design. The extreme dark gray color white light gray accent doesn’t abode well. For the first impression, the site falls flat because there are little to no images to break the monotony. I’m sure the output that the website has is definitely not something that the mods must’ve hoped for but still settled for it. Because it doesn’t complement the interface and functions in any way.

Header – In the header section of the website, you’ll find two menus. The primary menu has a black background with white text. In this menu, you’ll find options such as ‘Ratio’, ‘Uploaded’, ‘Downloaded’, ‘Active Torrents’, ‘Inbox’, ‘Seedbox’, ‘Invites’, and Notices’. The secondary menu has a gray background with black text. In this menu, you can find options such as ‘Home’, ‘Torrents’, ‘Bookmarks’, ‘Reseeds’, ‘Chat’, ‘Forums’, ‘Profile’, ‘Upload’, ‘Top 10’, ‘FAQ’, ‘Log’, and ‘UserSearch’.

Inner Pages – Using the various sections on the homepage, you can easily navigate to the inner page on the website. While most of the free indie content is listed on the homepage itself, you might not find all the titles and thus you can dig deep using the search bar. As for the design sense, you’ll find similar visuals with horizontally placed titles that are accompanied by information such as ‘Comments’, ‘Added’, ‘Size’, ‘Seeds’, ‘Leeches’, and ‘Uploader’.

Free Indie Content – With tons of torrents across various formats, there’s a lot of valuable free indie content on this website. You can choose topics based on your interests – ‘Adult Swim’, ‘Animation’, ‘Cartoon Network’, ‘Comedy’, etc or you can choose from various channels. These categories lean more towards keyword oriented as opposed to static segmentation.

Desktop/Mobile experience

Other than the free indie content quality, it has well-categorized menus which help the users find content in no time. However, you must know that browsing MySpleen on the desktop offers a much better experience than mobile. As far as downloading is concerned, the quality seed-to-leech ratio does help the users to download popular free indie content at a great speed.

Suggestions I have for MySpleen

It’s disheartening to see that more than 60% of the torrents on this platform are unseeded. Maybe, the mods need to upload content by gauging user opinion first. As far as design is concerned, I feel that’s a quick fix and shouldn’t be much of a problem.

Conclusion

While MySpleen is a quality torrent site, I still have my reservations when it comes to design and torrent seeding. However, if you do get an opportunity to join the community, I’d advise you to go ahead and try it. The sheer nostalgia hidden in this treasure is mind-boggling.
